CanSkate
CanSkate is a nationally standardized Learn-to-Skate program founded by Skate Canada for skaters aged 5-12 years old. It is meant for brand new skaters, or skaters who were previously working on CanSkate Stages 1-6.
The program is designed to build foundational skating skills and abilities for those interested in pursuing hockey, figure skating, ringette, speed skating, or to simply learn how to skate! Skaters progress through the stages of the program (see chart below).
Following “circuits” drawn on the ice, every session guarantees skaters’ continuous movement. All coaches are trained through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and are assisted by volunteer Program Assistants.
The maximum ratio of coaches to skaters is 1:10. CanSkaters who have passed Stage 4 and are interested in figure skating will be invited to join GroupSTAR. For more information, please refer to the CanSkate handbook
