OUR TEAM
Pre-CanSkate
This fun and engaging ice skating program is designed for children ages 3 to 6, with participants required to be at least 3 years old by the start of the session.
Each session runs for 30 minutes and focuses on building essential skating fundamentals such as balance, stopping, turning, jumping, and skating both forward and backward. Skaters are motivated through positive reinforcement and fun incentives.
Led by NCCP Certified and trained professional coaches, the program promotes physical activity and encourages a lifelong love of skating. The primary focus is to ensure children enjoy their time on the ice while developing the foundational skills needed to progress into the CanSkate program.
CanSkate
CanSkate is a fun, high-energy learn-to-skate program for children ages 6–13 (younger skaters may be accepted with Recreation Director approval). Each 50-minute session is led by NCCP Certified Coaches with trained Program Assistants, maintaining a 1:10 coach-to-skater ratio.
The program develops core skating skills—balance, control, and agility—using a structured, stage-based system that supports all ice sports. Skaters progress at their own pace from Stage 1 to Stage 5, earning badges and ribbons along the way.
Based on Skate Canada’s national curriculum, CanSkate emphasizes continuous movement, active participation, and fun through music, games, and group activities—building confidence and a solid foundation for future skating.

This program is a fantastic opportunity for parents and older children to learn a new skill together in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Start to Skate
In partnership with the City of Hamilton, Start to Skate is a subsidized program offered for first-time skaters aged 4-5 years old. CSA-approved helmets are required. This program is designed for your skater to attend a maximum of 2-10 week sessions. Following that, your skater is encouraged to register for the club/Skate Canada CanSkate sessions. This is a wonderful opportunity to build foundational skating skills at an economical price point thanks to the City of Hamilton.
Adaptive CanSkate
This program is designed for skaters with physical, cognitive, and/or intellectual disabilities and operates with a 1:1 coach/PA/support-to-skater ratio to meet individual needs. Skaters may bring their own on-ice support person, pending approval by the CanSkate Director based on skating competency. Approved support persons will be registered by the Program Director to ensure coverage under Skate Canada insurance. This new program, introduced in the 2024–2025 season, runs on subsidized ice shared with STS programming, as permitted by the City.
