Flamboro Skating Club Program Director

Flamboro Skating Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Program Director to lead our STAR coaching team, work closely with our CanSkate Director, and continue to advance our skating programs. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional with a strong leadership background, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for developing skaters at all levels. This pivotal role combines strategic leadership, program development, and hands-on collaboration with our talented team of coaches, skaters, Board of Directors and club administrator. You’ll oversee ice scheduling, elevate program delivery, and ensure our events and assessment days run seamlessly, all while fostering a positive, inclusive community where everyone can thrive. 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Coaching & Program Leadership 
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and continuous development of all club programs through coaching, recruiting and working closely with the club administrator. 

  • Innovate and maintain high-quality programming aligned with Skate Canada’s Long Term Development pathways. 

  • Drive the culture of FSC by overseeing daily coaching operations and upholding club policies and standards. 

  • Create and manage on-ice and off-ice schedules for all programs. 

  • Provide mentorship and leadership to coaches, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team. 

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and athlete-centred environment for skaters to reach their full potential. 

  • Create an environment of continued growth and development, seeking out opportunities for coaches to participate in on-ice and off-ice training sessions, performance simulations, and development seminars. 

  • Organize and oversee competitions, assessment days, ice shows, and special events to enhance skater development. 



Administration & Board Collaboration 
  • Report directly to the Board of Directors, working closely to ensure smooth planning and execution of all programs and strategic deliverables. 

  • Attend board and committee meetings to provide updates on program performance, staffing, and resource requirements. 

  • Assess registration trends, skater progression, and program needs to inform strategic decision-making. 

  • Manage and oversee coaches, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and contract renewals. 

  • Develop and maintain annual coaching schedules to ensure seamless program delivery. 

  • Review, approve, and submit coaching invoices/pay sheets that are billed to the club to the Club Treasurer. 

  • Assist in budgeting and financial planning to ensure effective resource allocation. 

 

Skater & Community Engagement 
  • Act as the primary point of contact for skaters, parents, and members regarding program-related inquiries and skater development. 

  • Implement best practices for parent communication and skater progress tracking to support development and retention. 

  • Work with the Test Chair to coordinate assessment days, ensuring proper staffing and scheduling. 

  • Coordinate the nomination and selection of skater awards and recognition programs. 

 

Qualifications & Skills 

  • 5+ years of experience in coaching and/or skating program management. 

  • Certified Regional Coach (or higher) and in good standing with Skate Canada. 

  • Strong understanding of Skate Canada programming, policies, and STAR 1-5 technical requirements. 

  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills to lead a coaching team and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors. 

  • Experience in event planning, program development, and project management. 

  • Ability to foster a positive, professional, and development-focused environment. 

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
